Are you tired of spending hours writing blog posts? Looking for a quick and easy solution so you can spend your precious time more productively? Enter ChatGPT – yeehah!

With its ability to generate text quick-smart for next-to-no cost, many are turning to ChatGPT for their blog writing. But before you get too excited and start pumping out loads of blogs using AI, remember this: a tool is only as good as the hand that wields it.

It’s an absolute godsend?

At first glance, Chat GPT might seem like the answer to all your blog writing prayers, but if you look again, you’ll soon realise the writing it produces is about as inspiring as an Excel spreadsheet: functional, but hardly enticing (unless you’re an engineer).

The content is superficial and most of what it writes is repetitive and sounds, well, robotic. Personality? Authenticity? Not so much. Chat GPT lacks that human touch, that spark of creativity that makes you sit up and take notice. And successful content writing isn’t just about churning out page after page of information, it’s about forging a connection with your audience.

And then there is the issue of accuracy. Chat GPT, by its very nature, puts together a mishmash of recycled data. It can only produce what it has been fed and as we all know, the Internet is a minefield of half-baked facts and outright fibs.

Blogs on a ‘best before’ diet

Chat GPT assimilates existing information, predominantly sourced before September 2021. Put it another way, Chat GPT slurps up older information, spits it out in a different form, and calls it a done deal. But here’s the issue: with the speed of today’s digital age, most of that info is already well outdated, and Google’s won’t reward you for regurgitating yesteryear’s news.

In the cutthroat world of SEO where we’re all gunning for that top spot on Google, originality is the key and churning old facts doesn’t exactly endear Chat GPT to Google’s algorithms.

Online content is starting to sound almost interchangeable, so the last thing businesses need is blogs full of more pointless noise. Businesses need to identify and build their own tone. Original content that provides readers with the most value will continue to make it to the top of the Google rankings.

What does ChatGPT have to say?

Do you think, as a content writer, I might be a little biased? It is possible, so I asked Chat GPT why you can’t just use ChatGPT for blog writing, and this was the reply.

“As for why you can’t just use ChatGPT to write your blogs, while ChatGPT is a powerful tool for generating content, it lacks the human touch and understanding that comes with experienced writing. Blog writing involves more than just stringing together words; it requires creativity, empathy, and a deep understanding of your audience and industry. Human writers can inject personality, voice, and expertise into their writing in a way that AI currently cannot replicate. Additionally, originality and authenticity are crucial in blogging, and relying solely on AI-generated content may compromise these qualities.”

So, while ChatGPT is impressive in its ability to generate text, it does have limitations, and these can negatively impact the quality and effectiveness of your blog posts.

From a lack of accurate information to potential issues with plagiarism, relying solely on ChatGPT for your content can be risky.

Chat GPT should be used as an assistant and not a replacement

AI is an auxiliary tool rather than a panacea and it most definitely has its place. By no means am I suggesting that you should avoid using AI altogether. Rather, you need to know when to use it strategically and how to leverage it effectively.

We should not be tempted into thinking Chat GPT and other AI writing tools are a substitute for good old-fashioned human creativity. We should not overestimate their capabilities, because when it comes to crafting quality web content, there’s no substitute for the human touch.

Human-generated content may be more of a time investment, but that investment tends to pay off in terms of traffic and overall engagement. Check out this blog post by Neil Patel.

Expertise and industry knowledge, along with SEO, play a vital role in blog writing. So, while AI models like ChatGPT can be a helpful in your content writing process, they can’t replace the value that human writers bring to the table.

So, by all means, embrace the power of AI. Use Chat GPT to help you pull ideas together and create a framework for your blogs and web content, but then take the time to humanise the AI content. Add context, check facts, remove inaccuracies and redundancies, and then rewrite it in your brand’s voice.

Another tool in your digital marketing arsenal

The key is to view AI just like any other handy tool. By combining the creativity, expertise, perspectives of good human writers and technological wizardry you will get effective and engaging blog content.

In the end, like most things in life, it all comes down to balance. You can definitely use Chat GPT for your blog writing but be very aware of overreliance.
